the dad

in celebration of father's day, i'm going to share with you a haiku dedicated especially to my husband:

the dad
a hardworking man
who loves his children (and beer)
let's give dad a cheer

i can hear you all gasping in awe at my sheer poetic genius.

thank you.

seriously though, thank you dear husband for all that you do for our family, and for making time for each of us.  our children adore and love you, and i love you too!

happy father's day!

the teen years: v. 1.6

dear tyler,

today you turned 16.  sweeet.  and craaaazy!  what in the world happened?  do you remember when you were this little?

yeah, that was 10 years ago.  you still had them apple cheeks, and very into power rangers.

even though in 10 years time your tastes and looks have changed (no more power rangers and apple cheeks), there are some things that remain the same.

you are still kind-hearted, honest and thoughtful, just like you were 10 years ago.  and when you persevere at something you are quite successful!

you are growing up into a respectable young man, greatly admired by your little brothers and sisters. we know that God is continuing to mold and shape you into what he wants you to be.  continue being the gentleman that you are, and keep taking on those challenges like you're iron man taking on the mandarin.

we are proud of who you are.  happy sweet 16th birthday!

on 7 years ago today

okay, i'm posting this a day late so i guess the title should be "on 7 years ago yesterday."

*****

when i was pregnant with emma, we were pretty sure that we were going to have a boy.  but what a little surprise she was!

and today we celebrated her 7th birthday.  7 years of watching this little baby bundle turn into a beautiful, little girl.

the celebration was simple.

there were presents...

a birthday dinner...

and birthday cake (which was custom made just for her).

daddy was even able to join in the happy birthday singing thanks to technology.

thank you to everyone who wished her a happy birthday.  she liked getting the phone calls, and reading the facebook comments.  i know it made her feel special and loved.

to a lovely, little lady who is truly enjoying life to the fullest, no matter where she is: happy birthday my emma!

10 months

dearest little peanut,

first off, i meant to write you a little something when you turned 8 months, but we were in the midst of traveling cross-country so i didn't do it. second, i'm almost a week late in writing your 10 month note.

it's been 2 months since we left our old home in cleveland, and you have settled in quite well at ibu and grandpa's house.  it didn't take long for you to get comfortable in your new surroundings at all.

you have changed so much in 4 months. the biggest thing: mobility.  you do almost the same belly crawl that your brothers did when they were your age, and it's so cute to see you moving around and pull up on stuff.

since you started on table foods a month ago, you're not as teeny as before.  at least you can wear 9 month clothing now!  okay, it's a little loose, but i think it counts.

speaking of food, did i mention you love to eat?  every time someone pulls out a snack, or you hear the rustling of a plastic bag, your feet begin to kick excitedly and your eyes get that hyper-focused-stare-down look at whatever edible item is being displayed in front of you.  you sure can put a lot away for a wee peanut!

some of the sweetest things i've been enjoying from you these past 4 months: squeals, giggles, baby chatter, squishy-grin face, ticklish neck, cuddles, sloberry kisses, the excited kicking you do right before you nurse, climbing on your brothers, smiles, birdie mouth, little hands, and little toes.

i love you my sweet, little princess!  happy 10 months to you!

love,

mommy
