farm fresh produce

i've decided to increase the frequency of my produce pick-up to once a week again. i felt like i got a lot more than usual for $10. but i'm not complaining.

here's what we got: 1 green tomato (any ideas on how to prepare this???), 1 lb. red tomatoes, 4 beets, 6 apples, 2 cucumbers, 1 hot pepper, 1 chinese eggplant, about 1 lb. green beans, and 1 green bell pepper.

i was hoping to find some mixed greens on the barter table, but no such luck.

on the green tomato - I am from the south, so I'd fry it! Fried green tomatos are soooooo good! Slice it in thick slices (I "peel" mine first, but you don't have too... also core it at the top).... dip in a little buttermilk, then put it in a mix of flour and cornmeal to coat. Place in a frying pan (I prefer the old fashioned cast iron skillet) and fry on both sides until golden brown. Then put them on a paper towel in a plate to drain, and cool, and eat! It is so good!
