art walk
yesterday we checked out the lakewood art festival. we've gone every year since we've moved here, but didn't really look at anything because there's a lot of the same stuff. we do have a few favorites that we look forward to seeing each year. but to us, most of it seemed to be "crafty" type items rather than art (e.g. felted handbags, leather purses, jewelry, hand-made cards). although i would say that "craft" items are still art in a sense, but i guess it wasn't really what i was expecting. then again, art does cover a broad spectrum of things. i don't know...maybe a lot of the stuff wasn't really our style. hard to explain. you would have to go to understand what i'm talking about.
anyway, we just walked around. enjoyed some fresh, squeezed lemonade, a piece of baklava, and some beef schawarma. with as many "oh she's so cute" compliments for emma (those could have been directed at me, but i doubt it) we could probably have made money off people.
"oh she's so cute!"
"thanks. that'll be $1 for looking."
OR
"oh she's adorable!"
"thanks. that'll be $5."
"$5?"
"yeah, we charge $1 for looking, but since you used a big word like adorable it's $5."
OR
"isn't she just too cute?"
"thanks. that'll be $13. we charge 50 cents per character."
then again, maybe we shouldn't encourage strangers to give compliments. i don't exactly want them looking at her when she's a teenager. in fact, we probably won't take her anywhere when she's older. we'll just keep her inside the house.
